Vinyl Floor Product Care
Preventative Measures

Asphalt and Tar. Driveway materials are a special hazard to resilient floors of all types. Asphalt and tar deposits on shoes may discolor a vinyl floor, especially in hot weather. A non-staining fiber mat placed near entrances will help remove deposits on shoes. Also, a coating of vinyl flooring finish may help protect the floor. If the finish becomes discolored, it can be removed and the flooring re-coated.

Tears, Cuts, and Indentations. Damage may result from high heels, rocks embedded in shoes, dropping sharp objects, unprotected chair or table legs or children's toys. Deep burns and cuts should be repaired by a qualified flooring installer. Contact The Floor Club for service information.

Mats. Rubber-backed mats cause the floor to discolor in time. We recommend the use of a mat or rug that does not have a rubber or latex backing.

Protecting Your Floor from Sunlight. To fully protect your floor, light-controlling window treatments are recommended at large openings such as sliding glass doors. Sunlight will fade most fabrics, vinyls and other floor coverings.

Basic Protection of Vinyl Floors

The following are general care guidelines. Please refer to the manufacturer's care and warranty guide for more specific information on your product.

Do not disturb welded seams and avoid walking or placing furniture on a new vinyl floor for at least 24 hours after installation.

Placing Furniture on Vinyl Floors

Furniture and appliances may cause indentations in vinyl flooring unless proper rests, glides or casters are used. Metal caps and furniture rests with small, narrow load-bearing surfaces should be replaced with wide protective load-bearing devices.

Types of Load
Recommended Protection
Heavy or seldom moved furniture or appliances
Glass or hard plastic caps with a minimum of 1% sq. inch load-bearing surface

Frequently moved furniture
2'' diameter casters with soft, non-staining 3/4'' rubber edges and easy ball-bearing swiveling action

Light furniture
1.5' to 2' glides with smooth, flat bases, rounded edges and a flexible pin to maintain floor contact

When moving heavy furniture or appliances, place plywood or hardwood panels on the floor and "walk" the objects across the panels. Carpet remnants can also be used. Never slide furniture or appliances on a vinyl floor. No vinyl will withstand this type of abuse and may tear or wrinkle.
