Vinyl Floor Product Care
Routine Maintenance

Although vinyl flooing wearlayers are designed to withstand routine wear, they will lose their brilliant shine if they are repeatedly subjected to sand and dirt-especially in heavily traveled areas.

Sweeping. Surface dirt can be easily removed with a broom, vacuum cleaner, or damp mop.

Washing. Sponge mop using the manufacturer's recommended vinyl floor cleaner, following package directions. Do not flood the floor. Loosen ground-in dirt with a soft brush. Do not use scouring powder or other abrasive materials which may harm the surface.

Waxing. Vinyl floor surfaces do not need waxing. If the luster diminishes in heavy traffic areas, wash floor as recommended, and buff with a lamb's wool pad. To bring up the shine, apply a liberal coat of vinyl floor finish. The Arizona Floor Club carries floor maintenance items recommended by all major vinyl floor manufacturers.

Wearlayer Care

The following are general care guidelines. Please refer to the manufacturer's care and warranty guide for more specific information on your product.

All floors need some care to look their best; vinyl floors may, on occasion, require additional attention.

Dull Spots from Scuffs and Scratches. Surface abrasions and residual marks from foot traffic can cause a dull spot on your floor. Use the following procedures to remove a scratch or scuff on sheet vinyl flooring:

With Urethane Wearlayer

Problem
Dull spots

Cause
Light to deep scratches/abrasions

Solution
Wash area with vinyl floor cleaner, rinse and dry. Apply a liberal coat of vinyl floor finish to the area.

Urethane wearlayers should not be exposed to household abrasive cleaners which can dull the finish.

With PVC No-Wax Wearlayer and Vinyl Wearlayer

Problem
Dull Color marks

Cause
Footwear scuff residue

Solution
Use a clean, white cloth dampened with charcoal lighter fluid and rub the area to remove the residue. NOTE: Lighter fluid is flammable. Use caution when handling flammable solvents. Wash with vinyl floor cleaner, rinse with water and dry. If the area is dull after performing all of the above steps, follow directions under "Dull Spots" as outlined above. NOTE: Some footwear residue may cause a stain if left on the flooring surface. To remove the stain, saturate a white cloth with chlorine bleach and leave on the area overnight* Cover the cloth with plastic wrap and seal the edges with tape to prevent evaporation.
Accidental Spill and Stain Removal

No floor is stain proof. Certain spills and smears can be especially harmful-including types of shoe polish, hair waving and dying solutions, lipstick, furniture oils and polishes, wax crayons and pet stains. Wipe up all spills quickly before they set. Then follow some of the steps below for special problems.

Stain Removal. Household chlorine bleaches will effectively remove some stains. For tough stains, cover the areas overnight with a clean white cloth soaked with bleach. Cover the cloth with plastic wrap and seal the edges with tape to prevent evaporation.

Rust and Grass. Use a 10% solution of oxalic acid (available at most drug stores) to reduce or remove stains. Handle acid with proper precautions.

Cigarette Burns. No resilient floor is cigarette burn proof. Careful use of fine steel wool or cleaner will usually remove the scratch.
