When selecting carpet it's necessary to evaluate how much use carpeted areas will receive.
For example, heavy traffic areas should be highly wear-resistant. Keep this in mind when
reading the following material and when making your selection.
Acrylic:
- Man-made fiber
- Feels like wood
- Good durability with resistance to abrasion
- Good to excellent resistence to crushing (resiliency)
- Good to very good resistence to soil
Nylon:
- Man-made fiber
- Most commonly used fiber
- Excellent durability
- Very good resiliency
- Good stain resistence; look for nylon treated with stain-resistant protection
Polyester:
- Man-made fiber
- Usually less expensive than nylon
- Offers exceptional softness and rich color
- Excellent durability and resistance to abrasion
- Very good resiliency
- Naturally stain and fade resistant
Polypropylene (olefin):
- Man-made fiber
- With good absorb moisture
- Excellent value
- Very good durability and resistance to abrasion
- When properly constructed, is exceptionally resilient
- Excellent resistence to soil
Wool:
- Natural fiber
- Exceptionally soft underfood
- More expensive than most carpets
- Good durability (man=made fibers offer more durability)
- Excellent resiliency
- Easy to clean
